Envelope Tracker

Track your stamped letters simply and for free Star

Welcome to Envelope Tracker

Envelope Tracker lets you create and track USPS First Class letters and flats easily and for free.

Features

How It Works

When you mail a letter, USPS uses automated machines to scan a special barcode (IMb, Intelligent Mail Barcode) printed on the envelope. This barcode encodes the destination and tracking information. Our tool generates this barcode for you, so you can print it directly on your envelope. When your letter enters the USPS system, it is scanned and sorted automatically. You can then track its progress using the serial number and ZIP code. Note: Not every letter is scanned at every step, and delivery scans are not always available for regular First Class mail.

FAQ

Is USPS First Class mail trackable?

Q: Is USPS First Class mail trackable? A: Officially, USPS does not provide tracking for regular First Class letters and flats (USPS Tracking Basics). However, by using our tool to generate and print an IMb barcode, you can access limited tracking information as your mail is processed by USPS machines.

I used your tool, but there is no tracking available when I check

Q: I used your tool, but there is no tracking available when I check. A: How long did you wait? USPS only provides a scan when your letter is picked up and sorted at the post office in batch, so you may not see tracking until the end of the next business day.

Why does it not tell me when it delivers?

Q: Why does it not tell me when it delivers? A: USPS does not scan letters individually upon delivery. If the delivery point is available, a logical delivery event may be generated when the carrier’s GPS is detected near the destination. Learn more about logical delivery events in USPS Informed Visibility® Mail Tracking & Reporting (IV®-MTR).

What is an 11-digit ZIP code?

Q: What is an 11-digit ZIP code? A: It is the 5-digit ZIP, plus ZIP+4, plus a 2-digit delivery point. You can look it up using the USPS ZIP Code Lookup Tool.

What’s the advantage of an 11-digit ZIP?

Q: What’s the advantage of an 11-digit ZIP? A: It enables logical delivery event tracking for your mail. See more about logical events in USPS Informed Visibility® Mail Tracking & Reporting (IV®-MTR).
